“Out-of-Towners” Winemaker Mixer: 7:00-10:00pm

Event to be held at Broken Earth Winery

5625 CA Highway-46, Paso Robles, CA 93446

This hugely popular event returns with one-time-only opportunities to taste some remarkable off-the-grid wines and chat with the people who make them. This year’s “Rare & Reserve” theme showcases barrel samples, wine club, library, sold-out and pre-release wines that will ONLY be poured at this event. Get the first and in some cases very limited tastes of these amazing bottles.

We will also have a number of “Out-of-Town” wineries from all over the state pouring their entire line-ups – only at this event – adding to the evening’s first-rate wine selections. The movement has spread far and wide in the past 4 years since the first Festival and we wanted to showcase the garagiste spirit in action from all over California – including Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Monterey, Anderson Valley, Sierra Foothills and Santa Barbara.

Local favorite, The Pairing Knife Food Truck will also be on hand serving up delicious bites (for additional purchase) for those who’d like to grab something to munch on during the tasting.

Tickets No Longer Available. No walk-ups permitted.

“The Main Event at the Paso Fairgrounds”

2198 Riverside Ave, Paso Robles, CA 93446

The day begins by bringing back one of the most popular features of the Garagiste Festivals, its engaging, educational and unique winemaker panel and tasting seminars. These seminars are only available as part of the VIP Ticket, which also includes a Wine Country Box Lunch and early access to the Grand Tasting.

SEMINAR #1: 11:00am

“Exploring the Aroma Wheel

with Madeline Puckette, co-founder WineFolly.com

Wine-Folly-Essential-Guide-To-Wine-edition1-Cover-617x770Have you ever wanted to be one of those people who can sniff a wine and start rattling off specific aromas, making everyone else feel inferior? “Ah! I get hints of steering wheel leather, wet sidewalk, and cat pee!” Well, we have, and we’re finally gonna do something about it. In this seminar we will be putting our noses to the test to clarify the basic aromas found in most wines, both red and white. This exercise will help you enhance your ability to discern and remember wine aromas…and discover how they translate to flavor. To that end, we will taste a few wines to test your newfound sensory knowledge and showcase how individual aromas interplay to create a complex, finished bouquet within the glass and on your palate. After this seminar, YOU will be that person!

Madeline Puckette, wine expert and co-founder of the award-winning WineFolly.com, will headline the Exploring the Aroma Wheel Seminar, giving attendees a unique opportunity to isolate specific wine aromas, and understand where they come from, with content from her new visual book Wine Folly: The Essential Guide to Wine. SEMINAR #2: 11:45am

Techniques of the Garagiste: The Secret of Stems

with Mikael Sigouin (Kaena Wine Co.), Ryan Pease (Paix Sur Terre) and Stewart McLennan (Golden Triangle)

By virtue of their small size, Garagiste winemakers are often able to use atypical, labor intensive practices that require hands-on attention that are just not feasible when handling thousands of barrels at a time. In this seminar, our panel of winemakers will shed a light on a few techniques – such as stem inclusion (some winemakers trash, other winemakers treasure) – that can only be implemented with the flexibility of small-lot winemaking where what happens in every barrel brings unique nuances to the final wine. To fully understand, you have to taste it, so we will showcase the difference this technique – using the whole cluster, stems and all – can make in a wine and why it is becoming an increasingly popular technique with cutting-edge winemakers.

Seminars are only available to VIP Ticket holders. Spaces are limited.
Lunch and (1) hour early tasting access is included.

The festival’s Grand Tasting follows from 2-5pm with over 50 winemakers pouring 150+ wines and 20+ varietals.  Cheese & Charcuterie will be provided by Vivant Fine Cheese, along with food samples from local artisan vendors. We will also be offering a limited number of Early Access Tickets which gives attendees an extra hour of tasting from 1-2pm.

The day is capped with the festival’s traditional Rockin’ After-Party from 5:30-8:30pm, where guests and winemakers mingle, grab some brews courtesy of local fave Barrelhouse Brewing Company while dancing and head-banging to the kick-ass jams of the infamous AC/DC cover band High Voltage.
